Meet Lisa Slappey and Mehdi Abedi
Postmodern Traditions was founded over a decade ago by Lisa Slappey to bring contemporary rugs and modern design to the Houston market. As a natural extension of the well-established Pride of Persia Rug Co., Postmodern Traditions emerged to meet the growing demand for modern area rugs, custom rugs, and cutting-edge textile design.
Lisa Slappey, a respected figure in the Houston interior design community for over 40 years, envisioned a space where high-quality craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics could coexist. In collaboration with Pride of Persia’s Mehdi Abedi, Postmodern Traditions was born—blending modern design sensibilities with traditional rug-making techniques to create one of Houston’s leading destinations for designer rugs.
As a long-time supporter of the local design industry, Lisa has served on the board of the National Kitchen & Bath Association (Texas Gulf Coast Chapter) and continues to support the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). Her showroom has become a vital resource for interior designers, design students, and homeowners looking for exceptional quality and unique, modern pieces.
Today, Postmodern Traditions is more than just a rug showroom in Houston—it’s a hub for innovation, education, and design excellence. Whether you’re seeking a one-of-a-kind custom rug, a bold statement piece, or a minimalist design to anchor your space, we invite you to explore our collection and discover how modern rugs can transform a room.
